" During this retreat, Modiegi helped me get comfortable with the uncomfortable and to stand in my truth even when my voice shakes. As a black women, there are narratives out there that can make it difficult for us to be seen, valued and heard in spaces and now I have tools I can reference to help facilitate me in owning my truest professional self. " Words cannot express my gratitude for Ms. Modiegi! I had the privilege of sitting in several of her training sessions, starting in 2019 and again in 2020. I was a first-year teacher in 2019, so her knowledge and experience were so applicable to me, so much so that I remembered her tips and tricks throughout the entire 2019-2020 school year. I literally found myself asking the question, “what would Mo do in this situation? (a.k.a. WWMD!! #wwmd). Leading up to her sessions, I would be anxious and excited--maybe even a little scared--because I knew that she would stretch me and push me to be my best self. Ms. Modiegi has a rare gift where she makes me feel brave and powerful, like I can do anything, especially the hard things. Thank you so much Mo! You changed my life for the better! "Modiegi’s sessions spoke truly to the authentic and vulnerable leader I am striving to be. Her session on radical candor and the scenarios we used for our deliberate practice provided insight into the balance leaders are required to create between supporting individual teachers/ staff and supporting the evolution and daily progress of an entire school community (i.e. students and families). This was particularly helpful because I was able to understand that leadership has to be a role that advocates for and sees the humanity/needs of all of our community members.
These sessions also helped me examine my personal narrative in order to cultivate real relationships/connections with the members of my school community."- Retreat Participant
